Answering your questions about blockchain and NFTs
Hello Heroes ⚔️
We are super excited about the reaction that the Bitverse has created in the community, for that reason we would like to keep answering your question. In this blog, we would like to answer some of the questions that we have been receiving regarding NFTs and Blockchain.
Also, this week we will have an AMA answering your questions, for that purpose we have created a form, so you can send us your comments here.
BLOCKCHAIN AND NFTs
Q: Why are you making games using blockchain technology and NFTs?
A: Blockchain technology and the use of certain NFTs will enable us to overcome technological restrictions that would otherwise prevent us from making cross-game items a reality. Without this technology, we would not be able to create the Bitverse as we envision it!
Q: How will blockchain and NFT add utility to new and existing games?
A: You’ll see the usefulness of our NFT items in three primary ways, to begin with. As time progresses, expect this list to grow!
1) Ownership: This means that you can do as you please with your NFTs. Use them, sell them, or destroy them…the choice is yours. As gamers ourselves, we believe this level of control represents a revolutionary change in how games are played.
2) Progression: Your NFT hero will retain your progression, ultimately providing a way to make your NFTs more desirable.
3) Cross-Game Hero & Inventory: You’ll be able to play with your NFT hero across all of our Bitverse games and your inventory of NFT items will come along too, allowing you to show off your awesome items in multiple games.
Q: What is Kongregate doing to address the environmental concerns around blockchain and NFTs?
A: We share the environmental concerns around blockchain, and we are only partnering with carbon-neutral solutions. We want to build all our games sustainably and ethically.
Q: Aren’t NFTs a ‘scam’?
A: We see blockchain and NFT as a vehicle to deliver new and exciting content to players with the goal of enhancing your overall experience. This technology (like many others) can be used in a “scammy” way, but it ultimately comes down to the intention of the developer and how they plan to utilize it. The great news is that we remain committed to operating ethically while always keeping the player experience in mind. We believe blockchain has the potential to be the next big leap in gaming, but more importantly, we believe in doing things right. It’s our intention to give players power over what they buy to increase the value they perceive from playing Bit Heroes. We’re excited about the idea and hope those other people will be as well.
Q: What blockchain provider is Kongregate using?
A: We’re still working out details with potential blockchain partners for our upcoming NFTs, but we can confidently say that we are striving to partner with a carbon-neutral provider who will increase transaction speeds and reduce gas fees (think of a “gas fee” as something all users must pay in order to perform any function on a blockchain. More on that later on in the FAQ).
Q: Will I need to use cryptocurrency to purchase an NFT item?
A: Yes, you’ll need to use cryptocurrency to purchase NFTs. We know that may sound intimidating, but our goal is to make the purchasing process as smooth and player-friendly as possible. Until now, purchases involving cryptocurrencies have often been confusing, but there’s nothing inherent in the technology that says it has to be that way, so we’re working to make it significantly less stressful.
Q: Will I have to start using NFTs to play my game, or will there be freedom to continue playing as usual?
A: You’re more than welcome to play your games the traditional way! Nothing will force you to engage with the new blockchain layer if you don’t want to. We believe in hybrid models (as opposed to pure blockchain or traditional free to play games) with self-contained economies, so players can get the maximum enjoyment from our games. If you’re a F2P player and wish to remain so, you absolutely can!
Q: Will all NFTs and cross-game items require real money purchases?
A: No, our intention is to distribute NFTs through multiple sources, some of them paid and some for free. We want players to be able to earn rewards for participating in events that can then be exchanged for an NFT. We have a few other ideas in mind as well, but we’re not quite ready to share details on those yet.
Q: Will the NFTs need to be purchased through a specific marketplace? Can I sell my NFT items to other players?
A: We are working with our blockchain partner to provide a marketplace where players will be able to both buy and sell NFTs. We are working diligently to ensure that the marketplace is secure and easy to navigate.
Q: Will the blockchain games be play-to-earn? If so, what will this look like for players?
A: Play-to-earn game mechanics represent an exciting opportunity for gamers to earn currency while they play. More specifically, we plan to allow players to earn rewards for participating in events that can then be exchanged for an NFT item. This feature will take a bit of time for us to develop, as we want to ensure that we get it right before implementing it into our popular games. We’re currently aiming for the end of 2022 and will have more details for you in the future!
Q: How much will the NFT cost?
A: This is still something the team is in the process of exploring. While we aren’t ready to provide a specific dollar amount, we are comfortable saying that we aim to provide a multitude of pricing options.
Q: If Kongregate stops supporting these games in the future, won’t the NFTs lose all their value?
A: Unlike some other companies, we do not see blockchain and NFTs as a “get rich quick” scheme. Instead, we see this as technology that will enable us to create a rich and diverse gaming experience. Kongregate has proven over the years that we provide ongoing support to our popular titles, and the Bitverse will be no exception. We’re currently making plans for the Bitverse’s next 5 years and don’t plan on stopping there!
Q: How many NFTs will initially be available for purchase?
A: We have landed on a target number of NFTs to offer, however, we’re not quite ready to share these details yet. Don’t worry, we fully intend to keep the community up to date as these initiatives progress!
Q: What steps are Kongregate taking to ensure that the NFTs aren’t compromised at some point in the future?
A: Because NFTs are a somewhat new technology, security risks are at the forefront of many people’s minds (including our own)! Any NFTs currently in circulation is supported by a highly secure and closed system; future NFTs will only be created after all smart contracts have been reviewed by us and our blockchain provider. Your peace of mind matters to us!
Q: How do these NFTs differ from previously released ones?
A: Our previously released NFTs did not have progression integrated as a mechanic! Our new NFTs will have significantly more utility and will allow players to create truly unique items across multiple games.
Q: Are the NFT items randomly generated? Is there any difference between the NFTs in terms of rarity?
A: While we’re still in the process of fine-tuning the details on this matter, we feel comfortable sharing that there will be a ‘Rarity System’ in place for our NFTs. We intend to randomly generate NFT items with unique sets of characteristics. The mystery is part of the fun!
Q: Can we purchase specific NFT items from the marketplace?
A: The marketplace will allow you to purchase any publicly traded NFT item listed. You may need to wait until someone lists what you’re looking for prior to purchase.
Q: Will I be able to purchase an NFT Hero? What is the difference between a free-to-play Hero and an NFT Hero?
A: Yes, you’ll be able to purchase NFT Heroes! The biggest difference you’ll see between free-to-play heroes and NFT heroes is their ability to travel to other games in the Bitverse. A F2P hero will be bound to the confines of the game where they were created, whereas an NFT hero can progress across all games while being visually unique.
